“It was a very very good course. I enjoyed it immensely. I would very much like to repeat it. I was very pleased with my creation and very surprised that we did not have to pay at least, for the willow. Thank you for putting this course on.”
Recently over the summer of 2011 we have been running workshops on willow weaving and basket making with the help of expert willow worker and artist Jo Hammond.

We were able to run three workshops in the programme this summer, one in Dedham, one in Cavendish and one more in Bures St. Mary. With over 40 people attending the three sessions, the course was very popular with the community in the Stour Valley and all the workshops were fully booked.

Candidates were given the opportunity to make their own basket during the two day course. Something everyone seemed to relish was the chance to learn a new skill and walk away at the end with a new shopping basket as well.

The feedback we received was very positive and we seem to have inspired a number of people to continue willow working in the future which is exactly what we wanted to achieve. Here is some of the feedback we were given.

“I really enjoyed it and would love a follow up one in the winter making a basket using hedgerow materials”
“The course was incredibly inspiring and lots of fun. I definitely want to do more basket weaving and possibly grow my own willow! ”
If we are able to run any more of these events we will of course post it here first, so keep a look out.
