This Programme seeks to increase awareness and understanding of the Stour Valley by residents and those with an interest in its landscape and heritage assets, by learning more about them and how they are managed, and actively working to manage and restore the key features.
This Programme has 7 Projects and 28 outcomes. A summary of each Project is given below:
Description:
A Project to increase the understanding and awareness and improve the management of the landscape, heritage and historical features of the Stour Valley. Various courses and events aimed at landowners; interested individuals; school children and professionals. Summarised in a chapter of the Stour Valley Heritage Compendium.
Description:
A report defining the character and historic features of the Stour Valley used during the Development Stage to focus delivery of the Scheme, in particular by enhancing the Landscape Strategy.
Description:
A Project concerned with surveying elements of the Stour Valley’s built heritage using volunteers with associated courses for all in local building techniques. Work summarised in a chapter of the Stour Valley Heritage Compendium.
Description:
A Project concerned with surveying elements of the Stour Valley’s navigation structures using volunteers with associated courses and practical improvements to a structure. Work summarised in a chapter of the Stour Valley Heritage Compendium.
Description:
A Project uncovering the hidden history of the Stour Valley by volunteers using a variety of techniques, including field walking, field survey and documentary research. Work summarised in a chapter of the Stour Valley Heritage Compendium.
Description:
4 community training excavations supervised by experts and designed to answer specific conservation questions. Work summarised in a chapter of the Stour Valley Heritage Compendium.
Conservation, interpretation and access improvements to 4 medieval monuments in the Stour Valley, including training for volunteers, undertaken by volunteers and school children under the guidance of professionals.
